Self help list for uni

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threat's

I'll start with Strengths; New Ideas,
Once motivated I can be hard working,
                                    Working in a team,
                                    Writing.

                  Weaknesses; Painting,
Cannot show enthusiasm, no matter what,
Speaking in front of groups of people,
Would rather work at my own pace,

Opportunities; Trying to get into an exhibition (solo or not),
Enquiring at places for public sculpture(s),
                                         Renting somewhere for group studios,
Keeping an eye on Arts council for Wales and England stuff,
Searching in Art journals and magazines,
Enquiring to Arts council for Wales for a grant if a great idea occurs or something.

                Threats; Competition?,
                              Money?,
                              Poor economic times?,
People losing interest in the arts,
The art community not reaching out to the common folk?,
Art being uninteresting and unintelligible to the masses,

What do these threats lead to?  Becoming a homeless(bum) artist.

Enjoy your day =)

  1. Your 'threats' interest me... I think that art reaches out to everyone, but maybe not the art you are used to? These threats are quite specific and are focussed on the idea that art should communicate something to people who don't 'consume' art (although maybe they do in some form or another - tv/magazines/music/radio - homogenize'd pre-packed art, but art maybe?). Could these threats be converted into opportunities? The embryo of an idea?

  2. I understand what you're saying. Yes, I was thinking about the kind of art I do I suppose. Where as art is everywhere, but I don't think people generally watch a tv advert or a flier or listen to something on the radio or packaging (design stuff) etc and think, "An artist made this stuff, I wonder what his/her name is, it is really good, I will have to have a look at more of this persons art work" lol well you get the idea I guess. Yes I believe art should reach out to everyone in the right way, not just propaganda and ... umm psychologically eg, to make people buy it because it gets to teh right arts of their brain lol. I'm rambling.. Disagreeing with consumer culture won't help my case :/ :p. Ah well, art does a lot of different things for a lot of different people, it's not for me to decide what is right or wrong.
I would like it if you could expand on the converting them to opportunities idea though, if you could, please :).
I'm wondering if you mean to actually do art specifically to be engaging to those who are not particularly interested in art itself? Thanks btw.
